I'm not going to say you're the one in fault here (because you're not anyway), but this could've all been avoided if you demanded for the money first before you even made the animation. That way, you don't have to worry about you not getting paid AND you won't waste time working on something that you won't even benefit from.
But since it's already happened, what can we both do about it? To quote @Reaxx, that's a lesson learnt.
